The Miami Springs Police Department shared the news that the suspects caught on camera checking for unlocked cars were arrested.
According to MSPD, “On August 19 at approximately 1:00 a.m., two males wearing hoodies entered our city through the catwalk (see story on adding a camera to the catwalk) near North Royal Poinciana and traveled through Raven, Plover, Quail, Albatross, Swallow, North Royal Poinciana, and South Royal Poinciana, burglarizing more than 15 vehicles.”
The Miami Springs Police stated:
“During the crime spree, the suspects stole a firearm and two vehicles.
Our road patrol officers responded to numerous calls, gathered critical information, and completed reports. Through diligent investigative work, MSPD detectives located both stolen vehicles in West Hialeah. Although initially unoccupied, MSPD detectives maintained surveillance for more than four hours until two males were observed entering one of the stolen vehicles.
MSPD detectives followed the vehicle, and with assistance from the Hialeah Police Department K-9 Unit and Florida Highway Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit, conducted a felony traffic stop. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident at approximately 3:00 p.m.—less than 16 hours after the crimes occurred. Both stolen vehicles were recovered and returned to their owners.
Following interviews, MSPD detectives responded to one suspect’s Hialeah residence and recovered six firearms, including the firearm stolen in Miami Springs and five additional firearms taken during a separate burglary in Hialeah.
This investigation is an outstanding example of the teamwork, persistence, and dedication of our road patrol officers and detectives, who continue to go above and beyond to protect our community and hold offenders accountable.
We sincerely thank the Hialeah Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol for their invaluable assistance in apprehending both suspects.”
