Our zip code has seen the lowest levels of new COVID-19 cases since early November. We had just 76 new cases within the last 7 days. In Miami Springs, we estimate we had 42 new cases of COVID-19 within the last 7 days. That puts the total number of COVID-19 cases within Miami Springs at 2,586 or 18% of the Miami Springs population. As more Springs residents acquire the COVID vaccine, we’ll be closer to herd immunity.
MIAMI-DADE COVID CASES
COVID-19 cases continue to drop in Miami-Dade County. We had 6,622 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 7 days. That’s the lowest number since early November, 2020. This is a great trend as more of our seniors get the vaccine and we get closer to herd immunity.
Miami-Dade Hospitalizations still remain on the high side, but not as alarming as we saw in August. There were 244 new COVID-19 related hospitalizations last week. Miami-Dade County lost 125 people to COVID-19 last week. The number is trending lower, but it’s still too many.
FLORIDA COVID CASES
COVID-19 cases dropped in Florida to 37,872 new cases. Still high, but it continues a downward trend and the lowest weekly numbers since early November.
Unfortunately, we lost another 1,525 Floridians to COVID. That’s still too high, but we’re seeing a downward trend over the last few weeks. We hope this continues to drop towards the elusive zero fatalities.
Folks, we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We must continue to wear masks, wash our hands, and practice social distancing. We need to encourage our senior family members to get the vaccine. As the vaccine becomes available to more of us, we need to be responsible and get the vaccine for our own health and to protect our loved ones.
Some project we will reach herd immunity somewhere between late Spring and Summer. If we stay safe and get vaccinated, we will all be able to enjoy the company of each other in the second half of 2021.
God bless you all.
