You may have recently noticed the new metal facade being added to the downtown development.
As we had stated back in October 2023, the plans that were approved by the Miami Springs City Council called for the installation of Alucobond or equivalent metal facade.
However, we had received a notice from a representative for the developer that they had received waivers from the City of Miami Springs. The developer claimed that “the city waived such requirements and, or, accepted the substitution of an equivalent exchange” for the Missing Alucobond, Pavers, and Decorative Lighting.
Naturally, we asked the new City Manager of the City of Miami Springs, JC Jimenez, if he could send us a copy of the waivers for the Alucobond, Pavers, etc. Mr. Jimenez has been very responsive, and he informed us that they could not find any such waivers.
As they say, actions speak louder than words. And despite the assertion of waivers, you can see that the developer did finally come through and has installed the metal facade you see in these photos.
So here’s the question: Would the City of Miami Springs have required this installation without the media exposure? Would the developer have continued to claim they had waivers?
Bottom line: Sunshine is a great disinfectant.
While we see the new facade as a positive step forward we wonder if we’ll ever see the decorative lighting, planters, and pavers that were promised.
Only time will tell.
