Miami Springs Mayor Maria Mitchell announced on Monday that the Town of Medley is attempting to annex the unincorporated area to our west that Miami Springs has been trying to annex over the last 20 years. This is contrary to the 4 city agreement that has been in place for nearly the same 20 years.
As we reported back in January, Medley won its original bid for annexation. Miami-Dade County Commissioner and former Doral Mayor, JC Bermudez, was able to secure a 10-2 vote in favor of annexation for the Town of Medley.
County Commissioner Bermudez also secured a huge annexation for the City of Sweetwater.
But when it came time for the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens annexation efforts, our “representative” in the County Commission, Kevin Marino Cabrera, did NOT represent the will of the voters and instead has effectively killed the efforts of Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens to annex the area to our west.
This area remains unincorporated. As we have feared, now another municipality (Town of Medley) is attempting to annex an area that four cities had previously agreed would be annexed by the City of Miami Springs.
Only time will tell who will annex the area to our west, but it seems pretty clear, it won’t stay unincorporated forever.
Let’s see if Cabrera steps to the plate. This guy doesn’t convince me.
